Lakers reup Fox net pact

Pact allows b'caster to carry 40 home games each year

NEW YORK — Rumors that Jerry Buss, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, might create his own regional sports network vanished as Buss signed an eight-year renewal of his contract with Fox Sports Net West.

Contract, which begins with the 2004-05 season, calls for FSNW to carry about 40 home games of the Lakers each year, including a few preseason and postseason contests. Terms were not disclosed. KCAL-TV Los Angeles broadcasts just about all of the Lakers’ away games.

FSN reaches more than 5 million homes in Southern California, Hawaii and Nevada, producing about 200 live sporting events a year. The network has carried Laker games for the last two decades and also carries games of the Anaheim Angels and Los Angeles Kings.
