Inside Move: Wong feels right at ABC

'Extreme' exec has presided over recent reality hits

There’ll be no “Extreme Makeover: Network Edition” for Andrea Wong.

Ending buzz she might be jumping webs, the head of ABC’s alternative department is hammering out a new deal to stay put at ABC, insiders said. In the wake of former CBS reality chief Ghen Maynard’s decision to shift into scripted development at NBC, there had been talk that Wong might replace Maynard at the Eye (Daily Variety, May 6).

Wong, however, has a strong fan base among ABC and Disney brass, including new entertainment chief Steve McPherson. What’s more, several of ABC’s biggest rays of light this season — “The Bachelor,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and “Extreme Makeover” — have come from Wong’s department, while new skein “Wife Swap” generated solid advertiser buzz last week at ABC’s upfront presentation.

No word yet on who’ll get the alternative gig at CBS.
