Looks like it really is case closed for “The Practice” after all.
Legal skein ended its run in May, but at the time, ABC had said the show would live on — sort of — via a new legal drama from David E. Kelley dubbed “The Practice: Fleet Street.” All concerned, however, made sure not to call the new project, starring James Spader, a spinoff.
Now, to make sure nobody thinks the new show’s a spinoff, ABC has changed the title of the Kelley/Spader skein, removing any mention of “The Practice.”
The new title? “Boston Legal.”
Name sounds a bit like Kelley’s recently departed school drama “Boston Public,” but ABC insiders insist the new name scored higher with test audiences than “The Practice: Fleet Street.”
Meanwhile, looks like ABC’s testing department has been busy.
Mel Gibson’s new Alphabet laffer, previously announced as “Savages,” also has been rechristened. It’s now called “Complete Savages.”
And, at least according to an update ABC gave TV critics over the weekend in advance of the net’s upcoming press tour, it seems family drama “Life as We Know It” will be promoted with an all-lowercase title.
