Channel will preempt usual p'gramming for coverage
NEW YORK — Mark Cuban, cofounder and president of HD Net, is trumping the Big Three broadcast networks by providing live high-definition feeds in primetime of the Democratic and Republican political conventions.
The Dallas-based HD Net will preempt its usual programming for convention coverage from Monday, July 26, through Thursday, July 29, for the Democratic shindig, and from Monday, Aug. 30, through Thursday, Sept. 2, for the Republican event.
For both conventions, HD Net plans to transmit at least one hour each night from Monday to Wednesday, beginning at 10, and at least three hours on Thursday, starting at 8.
In addition to all of this live coverage, HD Net will make available at no extra charge gavel-to-gavel high-definition coverage (3 to 11 p.m.) of the conventions to any cable operator with high-def capability that wants to receive and transmit it, even operators that don’t buy HD Net.
