The Oakley/Weinstein half-hour is a ensemble workplace comedy about cops who work the Times Square precinct; it’s being described as a cross between “Barney Miller” and “NewsRadio.” Michaels, Oakley and Weinstein will exec produce via Michaels’ NBC Universal Television Studio-based Broadway Video. JoAnn Alfano, who runs Broadway Video’s TV division, also will exec produce.
Fox has attached a small penalty to its script commitment for the project.
In addition to spending more than a half-dozen years writing and later exec producing “The Simpsons,” Oakley and Weinstein created and exec produced “Mission Hill” for the WB and “The Mullets” for UPN. More recently, they’ve been working on VH1’s “Partridge Family” revival.
