Egyptian walks like Mexican

Arau pic courts controversy at H'wood preem

Hollywood’s Egyptian Theater grooved to a Latin beat during Tuesday night’s bow of “A Day Without a Mexican.” A mariachi band blasted music into the night while preemgoers nibbled on tacos and sipped horchatas at the courtyard bash.

Director Sergio Arau acknowledged the controversy surrounding the pic. “I am trying to change the perception of the other people — non-Latinos — and of how Latinos see each other,” he said.

Also on hand: Lupe Ontiveros, who introduced the pic in Spanish and English, and pic’s Yareli Arizmendi.
