Full recovery for NBC Sports chairman
NEW YORK — NBC Universal said that Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Sports, will “make a full recovery” from injuries suffered during a plane crash Nov. 28 that took the life of his son Edward.
Ebersol is hospitalized in Grand Junction, Colo., with a broken sternum and fractured ribs. Another son, Charles, who was in the corporate jet that crashed into a fence at the Montrose County, Colo., airport, is in the same hospital, laid up with a broken hand and a back injury.
“While our grief is unfathomable,” said a statement from the Ebersol family, “we are so proud of our Charlie, who pulled his father from the flames.” Ebersol’s wife is actress Susan Saint James, and he has two other sons, Harmony and Willie, and a daughter, Sunshine.
Bob Wright, chairman and CEO of NBC U, flew to Grand Junction to be with Ebersol and his family. “Our hearts go out to Dick and Susan on their loss,” said Wright. “Words cannot express the depth of a parent’s anguish when a child’s life is abruptly taken.”
The National Transportation Safety Board plans a thorough investigation of the crash, which also led to the death of the pilot and flight attendant.
