Stars turn out for preem of pic based on L.A. writer's life
Magnolia Pictures’ “Bukowski: Born Into This,” preemed Wednesday at the ArcLight, with friends and admirers Sean Penn, Bono and Tom Waits making onscreen appearances in the feature doc.
Screening was followed by a pour at the venerable Musso & Frank Grill, a considerably more upscale watering hole than those frequented by the notorious barfly. Strong, competently mixed martinis flowed freely for partygoers discussing the late L.A. writer’s difficult yet creatively satisfying life.
Helmer John Dullaghan said he was “attracted to the wisdom” of Bukowski’s works, and the doc shows both the warm, human side of the poet-novelist as well as his legendary grouchiness and womanizing.
Magnolia’s Bill Banowsky and Eamonn Bowles, Landmark/Magnolia co-owner Todd Wagner, Bukowski’s widow Linda Lee Bukowski and thesp Mary Woronov were among the guests.
