Tom Cavanagh (“Ed”) and Ashley Williams (“Good Morning Miami”) have signed on to topline ABC Family original movie “Snow.”
Cabler has greenlit production on the film, which begins shooting next month, for a December premiere. Family comedy will launch during the net’s 25 Days of Christmas winter programming event.
Alex Zamm (“Inspector Gadget 2”) is aboard to direct from a script by Rich Burns. Phil Kruener and Myra Morris will exec produce.
In “Snow,” Cavanagh plays the new but reluctant Santa Claus, Nick Snowden, who loses a young reindeer to a thief three days before Christmas Eve. When Nick travels to a California zoo to retrieve the buck, he finds romance with a zoo worker who has lost the holiday spirit.
Network’s most recent telepic, “Crimes of Fashion,” drew strong ratings Sunday, delivering 2.7 million viewers — almost 1 million more than the cabler attracted for its June movie “Love Rules.” “Crimes” helped lift the channel’s primetime viewership in July by 48% in total viewers and 25% in 18-34 and 18-49.
