ABC Family has greenlit production on the original telepic “Searching for David’s Heart.”
Movie stars Danielle Panabaker (“Stuck in the Suburbs”), Ricky Ullman (“Phil of the Future”) and Jeffrey Nordling (“Providence”) in the story of 16-year-old who, after a tough year following her older brother’s death, attempts to meet the recipient of his heart.
Pic is the fourth project to get the go-ahead from Disney ABC Cable Networks Group exec veep Gary Marsh, who took control of ABC Family’s telefilm unit earlier this year.
Project continues the new regime’s pic strategy that adds family films with multiple points of view to the previous lineup of romantic comedies.
Production begins this month in New Orleans.
Paul Hoen (“Tru Confessions”) directs from a script by Karen Leigh Hopkins and Alan Marc Levy. Stefanie Epstein and Joel Rice are exec producers. Pic is based on the book of the same name written by New York Times bestselling authors Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesfeld.
