LONDON — Napster UK is looking to quickly expand its customer base by partnering with Blighty’s largest provider of broadband services, ntl Inc., in a marketing scheme to promote the online music service.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but ntl will bundle Napster’s subscription service with its Broadband Plus package, driving ntl’s 1 million-plus broadband customers to Napster. The deal will also allow ntl customers access to the Napster music catalog via a web link on ntl’s web site.
Both offers, which are available from July, include a special introductory 30-day free trial of the Napster £9.95 per month subscription service and start with a pre-awareness email campaign.
“This is a significant deal for Napster because we are partnering with the biggest provider of broadband services in the UK, and ntl’s own research has shown that over 75% of broadband customers download music each month,” said Brad Duea, president of Napster.
