Exec responsible for shaping global strategy

Adam Klein, a former adviser to Tom Freston when he ran MTV Networks, has been named exec VP of strategy and business development for EMI Music.

He will be responsible for shaping and defining EMI Music’s global strategy and business development activities, taking a leadership role in developing strategic commercial relationships in the physical and digital music markets. Klein also will oversee EMI Music’s digital technology developments, content protection activities and consumer research.

He takes over from EMI Group exec veep John Rose, who is leaving the company to return to the consulting world as a partner in the New York office of Boston Consulting Group.

Klein will work out of EMI’s headquarters in London, reporting to EMI chairman-CEO Alain Levy and vice chairman David Munns.

Most recently adviser to the chairman and chief exec of MTV Networks, he was president and chief operating officer of Ask Jeeves 1999-2001. From 1996 to ’99 he was exec VP and president of global marketing for Hasbro.

He also has worked as a consultant, both for Boston Consulting Group and more recently for Booz Allen Hamilton, where he was lead partner in the media and entertainment practice in New York 2000-01.
