Universal Music Publishing Group president David Renzer has been promoted to chairman-CEO.
Renzer will continue to oversee the company’s global activities and report directly to Universal Music Group prexy-chief operating officer Zach Horowitz.
“David has presided over a period of remarkable growth for Universal Music Publishing Group,” Horowitz said. “This promotion recognizes his dedication, passion and vision, all of which have helped to make UMPG one of the world’s premier music publishing companies.”
Renzer joined Universal (then MCA Music Publishing) in March 1996 and spearheaded the integration of Polygram Music Publishing and Rondor Music into the Universal Music Publishing family. Renzer and his team have acquired more than 70 major catalogs, including Def Jam and Interscope, plus Trema in France and Koch in Germany. He also launched genre-specific divisions, such as Universal Christian Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing Group Latin America.
Recent signings at UMPG include Mariah Carey, Paul Simon, Prince, Ludacris and Dave Grohl.
Renzer began his career at Zomba Music Publishing, where he eventually became senior VP and general manager.
