Ancine to enforce media quotas

Brazil’s national film agency, Ancine, intends to enforce quotas for local pics and all other film and TV regulations for the first time.

It is hiring inspectors to make sure that exhibs screen homegrown fare 63 days a year. The inspectors will have the power to fine or suspend the operation of exhibs that break the regulations.

Ancine also is creating the Film and TV Information and Monitoring System. Film exhibitors and theatrical, TV, homevideo/DVD distribs will have to provide info, allowing Ancine to monitor the payment of taxes and fees.
