Venice-based Pacific Resident Theater’s revival of Tennessee Williams’ “Orpheus Descending” garnered three awards, including outstanding production, at the 35th Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards on Sunday.

Tying “Orpheus” for top honors were the preems of the Powerhouse Theater tuner, “The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World,” and the Mark Taper Forum’s staging of August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean.”

Other multiple winners, with two nods each, were Burbank-based Colony Theater’s revival of Lillian Hellman’s “Toys in the Attic,” the Odyssey Theater’s “Among the Thugs,” the Black Dahlia Theater’s preem of “Belfast Blues,” Dalton Trumbo’s “Johnny Got His Gun” at Stages Theater Center, International City Theater’s “Agnes of God,” the Zephyr Theater’s preem of Del Shore’s “The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife” and the revivals of two Stephen Sondheim tuners, “Passion” (East West Ensemble) and “Anyone Can Whistle” (Hudson Theater).

Awards were handed out at West Hollywood’s Coronet Theater.

Of the 30 awards presented for excellence in theater in Los Angeles and Orange counties, 19 were claimed by Equity 99-seat houses, with 11 awards being bestowed on large and midsize theaters.
