WASHINGTON — Judy Kuhn and Andrea Martin will be onstage here next season, in productions at the Signature Theater and Ford’s Theater, respectively.
Kuhn will be featured in “The Highest Yellow,” a new musical commissioned by Arlington, Va.’s Signature about the travails of eccentric artist Vincent van Gogh and the physician who treated him.
She has been cast by a.d. Eric Schaeffer as Rachael, a prostitute, in the production with music and lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa (“First Lady Suite”) and book by John Strand. Kuhn played Fosca in the Kennedy Center production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Passion,” which was directed by Schaeffer.
Martin will play Dolly Gallagher Levi in Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker,” which opens the new season in September for Ford’s Theater under its new honcho, Paul Tetreault. Martin (“My Favorite Year,” “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”) is currently playing Serafina in “The Rose Tattoo” at the Huntington Theater in Boston. Mark Lamos will direct.
