Gershwins ink with WMA

Tenpercentery to develop projects under estate

NEW YORK — The Williams Morris Agency has signed George and Ira Gershwin.

“We’ve been talking to the families for six months,” said Jack Tantleff, who closed the deal to rep the estate in all areas including corporate sponsorship. “To my knowledge, the Gershwin estate has never had any agency representation.”

According to Tantleff, WMA will look to create shows in the vein of “My One and Only” and “Crazy for You,” contempo stage vehicles that incorporated Gershwin songs into a new book.

“We intend to be proactive,” said Tantleff. “We will come up with ideas that are not necessarily the obvious ones. We are thinking out of the box.”

Gershwin classics include “Porgy and Bess,” “Rhapsody in Blue, “American in Paris” and “Of Thee I Sing,” the first musical to win a Pulitzer Prize.
