McAnuff-helmed tuner has undergone revisions since 2001 bow

Christopher Hampton, Don Black and Frank Wildhorn’s “Dracula” will be the first musical of the 2004-05 Broadway season. It opens Aug. 5 at the Belasco Theater. Previews begin July 12.

Des McAnuff directs. He also helmed the tuner’s world premiere in October 2001 at California’s La Jolla Playhouse. Since then, the show has undergone extension revisions, according to McAnuff.

Other creatives on the project include choreographer Mindy Cooper, set designer Heidi Ettinger, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Howell Binkley and musical director Constantine Kitsopoulos.

Based on the Bram Stoker classic, “Dracula” follows the 2002 flop “Dance of the Vampires” in the undead sweepstakes. Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “Vampire Lestat” is expected in 2005.

“Dracula” will be produced on Broadway by Dodger Stage Holding and Joop van den Ende, in association with Clear Channel Entertainment.
