Davidson lauded for his celebration of diversity, innovative spirit

HOLLYWOOD — A star-studded tribute Dec. 13 raised $1.1 million for the new Gordon Davidson Endowment Fund for Artistic Excellence, in a farewell gift to the outgoing artistic director/producer of Los Angeles’ Center Theater Group.

Davidson will finish overseeing the current season, which ends Sept. 5. Michael Ritchie becomes a.d. in January.

Walter Mirisch produced an evening that included a short film by Richard Schickel, a crowd-rousing speech by Tony Kushner and readings from August Wilson’s plays by Angela Bassett, Lou Gossett Jr. and Brock Peters.

Davidson was lauded for his celebration of diversity and his innovative spirit.
