‘700’ one for the record books

Legit Bits

NEW YORK — The producers of Billy Crystal’s “700 Sundays” reported $600,000 in single-ticket sales the day after the show’s Sunday Broadway premiere.

The lofty sum looks to be a record for a play. Last month, Michael Frayn’s “Democracy” sold $210,000 the day after it opened. Last season’s Sean Combs starrer “A Raisin in the Sun” did $250,000, while the 2003 revival of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” took in $413,000 the day after its opening.

For the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 5, “700 Sundays” grossed $618,589 –good enough to land it on Broadway’s top 10 B.O. chart. The other nine shows were musicals.
