Spring Creek's Weinstein producing with Gorfil

Charles Leavitt has been hired to rewrite “Okavango” for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Long in development at the studio, project is now envisioned as an adventure tale set in the world of diamond smugglers.

Leavitt’s script will follow a poor African farmer who gets caught up in the conflict between an American smuggler and the syndicate that controls local diamond mining.

Story follows the adventures of these two main characters through London, New York and South Africa, the major centers of the diamond industry.

Pic is being produced by Spring Creek’s Paula Weinstein with South African producer Gillian Gorfil. Pic is being overseen by Warner Bros. Pictures senior VP of production Courtenay Valenti.

Leavitt, recently finished penning “In the Heart of the Sea” for Intermedia and Spring Creek. He also recently wrote spec script “Animal Kingdom,” a high-concept comedy about two bad guys who hijack the wrong truck and end up with two very intelligent chimps. His credits include “K-Pax” and “The Mighty.”
