Valentia starts from ‘Zero’ with Luna pic

Pic to roll January; co. plans 1 big film per 18 months

Spanish director Luna (“Whore,” “Stranded”) is prepping a new pic, the E10 million ($12 million) Moscow-set chiller “Moscow Zero.” Film will mark the bow of a new production and sales company, Valentia Pictures.

Owned by Dolo Magan, the company is based out of the Mediterranean seaboard city of Valencia, Spain’s third-largest — hence the name.

Valentia plans one big-budget film every year to 18 months, Magan said at Cannes. Pics will be financed by international pre-sales, sales and complementary financing mechanisms, she added.

Cela Ortega has been appointed Valentia head of sales.

“Moscow Zero” begins with the disappearance of an Moscow anthropologist conducting research on the homeless who live in vast tunnels below Moscow. A friend sets out to find him and discovers this underground world connects with the underworld.

Pic will roll January toplining A-list actors, Magan said.

Valentia could collaborate with Dolores Pictures, which is run by Dolo Magan’s brother Jose Magan, she added. Dolores is focusing on pics in the $6 million-and-below bracket.

“Whore” was sold worldwide, snaring a U.S. deal with Screen Media.
