The eighth annual Urbanworld Film Festival will unspool in Gotham Aug. 4-8.
Closing-night pic is the U.S. preem of “The Seat Filler,” starring Kelly Rowland and Duane Martin, with both thesps as well as exec producer Jada Pinkett Smith in attendance.
Other highlights include the world preem of “Beauty Shop,” produced by Magic Johnson and Jeff Clanagan; a 20th-anni screening of “Purple Rain”; and pre-release screenings of Bronwen Hughes’ drama “Stander” and “The Woodsman,” starring Kevin Bacon and Mos Def, about a convicted pedophile trying to re-establish his life.
Michael Mann’s thriller “Collateral” will be fest’s opening night film; the director and stars Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx are skedded to attend.
Films competing for narrative feature prize include Michael Schultz’s “Women Thou Art Loosed,” starring Kimberly Elise, and L.A. Film Fest winner “Unknown.”
Pics also will screen in the competitive categories of doc feature, short and musicvideo.
