Univision gives kudos

Thalia, Chayanne take home honors

Mexico’s actress-singer Thalia and Puerto Rican heartthrob Chayanne went home Thursday night with three prizes each at Spanish-lingo net Univision’s first youth kudofest, the Premios Juventud (Youth Awards) in Miami’s James. L. Knight Center.

Jennifer Lopez nabbed two statuettes, She’s Totally Red Carpet and Paparazzi’s Favorite Target, while pop singer Paulino Rubio snagged one of the evening’s most important awards, All Over the Dial, which marks the hottest recording artist on the airwaves.

Other winners included banda group Liberacion for catchiest tune and re-mix; baseball shortstop Alex Rodriguez for hottest male athlete, and Colombian pop idol Juanes, dynamic duet for his recent duo with Nelly Furtado.

Nominees for the debut kudofest competed in 22 categories in film, music, sports, fashion and pop culture. The winners, selected through public voting on Univision’s Web site, were announced during Univision’s live two-hour entertainment splash on Thursday from 9-11 p.m. ET.

Set against a massive dance club stage, spectacle opened with jaw-dropping air, land and sea arrivals of its three “mystery hosts,” whose names had not been revealed beforehand.

Actor-singer Cristian de la Fuente rappelled onstage after arriving in a helicopter; Univision’s host Myrka Dellanos made her entrance on a motorcycle; and Galavision personality Galilea Montijo came by boat.
