‘True’ takes short trip to Berlin

Pic to open alongside 'Love' on Feb. 12

BERLIN — Tom Tykwer’s “True,” a 10-minute love story starring Natalie Portman and Melchoir Beslon, is among the selections of this year’s Berlinale’s short film section.

Pic, part of Paris-based Novem Prods.’ short film compilation “Paris Je T’aime,” will accompany X Filme’s “Love in Thoughts” in wide release Feb. 12.

The “Paris Je T’aime” anthology project boasts contributions from 20 international directors, including Woody Allen, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Jean-Luc Godard, each of which will focus on a different Paris district.

Achim von Borries’ “Love in Thoughts,” which is screening in the Berlinale’s Panorama section, stars Daniel Bruehl, of “Good Bye, Lenin!” fame, and August Diehl (“The Birch Tree Meadow”) in a true story about Berlin high school students caught up in an ill-fated romantic web in the summer of 1927.

The Berlinale’s short pic lineup includes a total of 17 titles.
