'Tell Them' preemed at Venice, Toronto fests

ThinkFilm has acquired all North American rights to documentary “Tell Them Who You Are,” Mark Wexler’s blend of bio and autobio in telling the story of his father, cinematographer and filmmaker Haskell Wexler.

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and went on to become one of the buzz titles after its North American bow at the just-concluded Toronto fest.

Now 82, Haskell Wexler won two Academy Awards for lensing “Bound for Glory” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” His son has directed several docus and is an award-winning photojournalist, but in the doc Haskell challenges Mark’s filmmaking choices at every turn.

The film also includes interviews with Billy Crystal, Michael Douglas, Jane Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Ron Howard, Norman Jewison, Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier and Julia Roberts, who discuss working with the elder Wexler.

Cinetic Media reps the film, which has already done a weeklong engagement in Los Angeles to qualify for Academy Award consideration.

ThinkFilm plans to open the film in March.
