BERLIN — Up-and-coming thesp Max Riemelt, star of Dennis Gansel’s World War II drama “Napola,” has been selected as Germany’s Shooting Star of 2005.
Riemelt joins 20 other young thesps in the Shooting Stars event who are to be introduced at a special ceremony held at the up-coming Berlin Intl. Film Festival Feb. 13. The Berlinale runs Feb. 10-20. The 20-year-old actor has won critical acclaim for his turn as a cadet at a Napola, a Nazi elite school for gifted boys. Riemelt also starred in Gansel’s 2001 teen comedy “Girls On Top” as well as “Girls On Top 2.”
German promotional org German Films each year selects Germany’s Shooting Star. Nominees must be prior film award win-ners or have had major roles in nationally or internationally successful films.
The Shooting Stars program helps young actors by boosting their recognition and popularity beyond national borders. “Na-pola,” whose festival screenings have included Karlovy Vary (where Riemelt won best actor kudos), Montreal and the Hamptons, hits local theaters Jan. 13
