Searchlight hot for Becker’s ‘Burn’

Director ready to ride; Hemmingson penning rewrite

“Van Wilder” writer-director Walt Becker has been tapped to direct “Crash and Burn” for Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Comedy concerns an interstate road race in which college students drive old-school muscle cars. Dave Hemmingson is rewriting the script originally penned by Mark Loughlin and Brad Schlei.

Craig Perry and Warren Zide produce, with Jill Mazursky and Schlei as executive producers. Sheila Hanahan-Taylor will co-produce.

Searchlight execs are VP Josh Deighton and creative exec Jeff Arkuss.

Becker also is writing “Bull Rider” with Vaun Wilmott for producer Christine Peters at Paramount Pictures.
