Producer pair, NL extend handshake

Contrafilm eyes H'wood digs, hires Rimalower & Zambri

Less than two months after ankling the top posts at Firm Films, producers Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson have christened their new venture Contrafilm and signed a non-exclusive first-look deal at New Line Cinema.

Flynn and Vinson produced the Brett Ratner-directed “After the Sunset” at New Line and prepped the Fernley Phillips-scripted “Number 23” as a possible Joel Schumacher pic and the Ted Griffin-Sean Bailey-scripted thriller “Solace” for director Gary Fleder.

Flynn and Vinson plan to secure office space in the Hollywood area. They’ve named Lucy Rimalower as development director and Lisa Zambri story editor. They will be setting up new projects as they complete those set up at Firm Films.

“New Line is a company of entrepreneurs and risk-takers, and that melds perfectly with our vision at Contrafilm,” said Flynn. He produced the films “Requiem for a Dream,” “The House of Yes” and “Tigerland” before taking the helm at Firm Films.

Flynn and Vinson said they left Firm because the production company was becoming primarily a packaging mechanism for Firm management clients. Firm partner Julie Yorn took the company reins when the duo exited.
