MEXICO CITY — Mexican thesp Diego Luna has nabbed six nominations for the first MTV Movie Awards Mexico, to be held in Mexico City on Tuesday. Luna received a nom for actor as well as a whole category devoted to his performances alone.

Local films “Ladies’ Night,” “Sin ton ni Sonia,” “Corazon de melon” and “Asesino en serio” were nominated for picture, although none have fared well against other Mexican films — such as “Japon,” strangely absent from the MTV noms — in recent awards ceremonies.

All the other noms, announced by MTV Networks Latin America on Thursday, went to foreign films, chiefly from the U.S., in 15 categories including sexiest hero and worst performance as a smoker.

In a nod to a recent scandals in Mexico showing politicians receiving bribes on videotape, an award will be presented for cinematography of a video scandal.

Mexican ska band Inspector will provide the musical entertainment.

The laurelfest, which MTV describes as a party rather than a formal ceremony, will aired on the music cabler here on June 22. The noms go to movies exhibited in Mexico between April 1, 2003, and March 31. Voting for the winners is conducted via Internet, allowing auds to decide.

MTV will hold its U.S. movie awards on June 5 in Los Angeles. Kudocast will air June 24.
