Miramax takes ‘Two’

Laffer centers on Fijian family in Kiwi

Miramax has acquired distribution rights for Australia and New Zealand to comedy “Number Two,” a feature adaptation of New Zealand playwright Toa Fraser’s hit play of the same name.

Working Title produced the pic with New Zealand Film and will release pic in the U.K.

“Two” is the comic tale of a fractured Fijian family in New Zealand who come together for one day when their matriarch decides to name her successor.

Tim White, Lydia Livingstone and Philippa Campbell are producing pic, which starts shooting in New Zealand at the end of the year. Pic is the first production for Fraser and Livingstone’s Colonial Encounters.

Victoria Treole, Australia-based senior acquisitions exec, and Matt Brodlie, senior VP of acquisitions, brought the pic into Miramax.
