PARIS — Veteran Gallic producer Margaret Menegoz was elected president of France’s film promotion body Unifrance, as widely expected, on Friday.
Menegoz had been interim president since topper Daniel Toscan du Plantier died of a heart attack at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2003.
A number of high-profile candidates had been linked to the unpaid but prestigious post, including former Canal Plus topper Pierre Lescure, thesp Jeanne Moreau and former Culture Minister Jacques Toubon.
But Gallic film producers pulled rank, insisting the job had to go to a member of their profession.
Menegoz’s term lasts for two years.
Unifrance also has three new VPs: producer Philippe Carcassonne, who heads the producers’ commission; actress-helmer Tonie Marshall, head of the artists commission; and Eric Lagesse of Pyramide Intl., president of the exporters commission.
