MADRID — Spanish actor Sergi Lopez (“Dirty Pretty Things,” “With a Friend Like Harry”) will topline “La Cancion de Dorotea” (Dorotea’s Song) for Bausan Films, producers of the Oscar-nommed docu “Balseros.”
Directed by actress-helmer Silvia Munt, who helmed docu feature “Gala,” the $2.5 million “Song” records a woman’s faltering search for passion, set against the passing seasons. Pic will lense starting in September 2005, shooting on Spain’s Ebro Delta. Munt will co-star with Lopez.
Bausan is structuring “Song” as a Spanish-French-Argentine co-production, Bausan’s Loris Omedes said. It is Bausan’s first feature as a majority co-producer.
Bausan is also prepping “La fabulosa historia de los Pelayo,” a $5 million drama turning on a Spanish family that developed a method for winning at casinos across Europe.
Bausan plans a TV reality show spinoff with the Pelayos taking on a Las Vegas casino.
The pioneering documaker has another doc in the works about the extraordinary life of the Spanish-born Jean Leon, who worked for Frank Sinatra, befriended James Dean, founded La Scala and created a Cabernet Sauvignon whose aficionados range from Ronald Reagan to Nick Nolte.
