Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush have been cast in “Candy,” the feature debut of Australian legit director Neil Armfield.
Abbie Cornish, who plays the lead in the Certain Regard entry “Somersault,” will also star in this comic story about two people so deeply in love that they don’t want anything to come between them.
Armfield and Luke Davies wrote the screenplay, based on Davies’ own debut novel.
Renaissance Films is handling worldwide sales on the project, produced by Emile Sherman of Sherman Pictures together with Margaret Fink Films.
Shooting will start in Australia late this year. Exec producers are Richard Payten, Andrew Mackie and Angus Finney. Pic will be lensed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Andrew Lesnie.
