IDA will fete doc nominees

'Sun' producers Black, Kightlinger to host

The Intl. Documentary Assn. will hold its 22nd annual gala for Academy Award documentary nominees Feb. 25 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Jack Black and Laura Kightlinger, who produced the documentary “Sixty Spins Around the Sun,” will host. The 7:30 p.m. event will feature presentations to each filmmaker and clips from their films.

Nominated features are “Balseros,” “Capturing the Friedmans,” “The Fog of War,” “My Architect” and “The Weather Underground.” Short category noms went to “Asylum,” “Chernobyl Heart” and “Ferry Tales.”

“Balseros” and “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” shared top honors in the IDA’s 2003 feature competition.

The IDA and Sundance Channel will also host DocuDay Feb. 28 at the WGA Theater in Beverly Hills with screenings of the Oscar-nominated documentaries followed by discussions with the filmmakers.
