Hatchery nabs teen gumshoe

Tome run has over 1 million books in print in 11 countries

Los Angeles-based entertainment/marketing shingle the Hatchery has picked up film and TV rights to Wendelin Van Draanen’s bestselling book series about teen detective Sammy Keyes.

Eight titles of the children’s mystery series have been published thus far, with more than 1 million books in print in 11 countries.

The ninth book, “Sammy Keyes and the Psycho Kitty Queen” will be published by Random House’s Alfred A. Knopf imprint this fall.

The Hatchery will also develop direct-to-DVD feature films based on R.L. Stine’s horror anthologies “Nightmare Hour” and “The Haunting Hour.”

The Hatchery was launched in 2003 by Hallmark Channel CEO Margaret Loesch and ex-Mattel worldwide prexy Bruce Stein.
