Florida fest skeds ‘Only’

'Map,' 'Feast' also to unspool

The sixth annual Sarasota Film Festival will unspool Jan. 23-Feb. 1 in Florida with an opening-night screening of the world preem of Gil Junger’s romantic comedy “If Only.”

Film’s star, Jennifer Love Hewitt, screenwriter Christina Welsh and helmer Junger will be present at the screening and after-party.

Hewitt, as singer, not thesp, will perform at the fete.

The fest’s first Saturday night is a full and varied sked.

Fest will partner with the Florida West Coast Symphony in a concert pairing well-known film clips with their scores.

Also on Saturday, the Florida preem of Campbell Scott’s “Off the Map” will unspool with thesp Sam Elliott hosting a Q&A.

Saturday night’s third main event will stick to a “B” theme.

Herschell Gordon Lewis’ 1963 horror pic “Blood Feast” will screen with comments by B-movie critic Joe Bob Briggs, followed by a live B-52s concert.

Fest’s weekday highlights include a luncheon honoring stage and film thesp Patrick Stewart and the world preem of Vincent Sassone’s “A Tale of Two Pizzas,” with cast members Frank Vincent, Vincent Pastore and Patty D’Arbanville in attendance.

Afternoon press conference and awards ceremony, followed by a black-tie gala at the Ritz-Carlton, will serve as the closing festivities.

Gala will honor a yet-to-be-announced thesp with a career achievement award. Last year’s ceremony lauded Richard Dreyfuss.
