The Washington, D.C., Area Film Critics Assn. has named “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” picture of the year, halting the winning streak enjoyed by Alexander Payne’s “Sideways” among critics orgs nationwide.
In addition to nabbing the pic prize, “Eternal” helmer Michel Gondry, scribe Charlie Kaufman and cast took the director, screenplay and ensemble prizes from the org comprised of 28 D.C.-based television, radio, print and Internet film critics.
Jamie Foxx nabbed actor and supporting thesp nods for “Ray” and “Collateral,” respectively.
Imelda Staunton garnered actress honors for “Vera Drake,” while Cate Blanchett copped the supporting actress prize for “The Aviator.”
However, “Sideways” wasn’t completely ignored by the WAFCA, which gave its adapted screenplay award to Payne and Jim Taylor.
Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” drew the docu nod.
Joshua Marston’s “Maria Full of Grace” took foreign-language film; animated film kudos went to Buena Vista’s “The Incredibles.”
