'Destino' to open event which kicks off March 5

Gus Van Sant, Susan Sarandon, Rob Minkoff and Jonathan Demme will be among the jurors for the sixth New York Intl. Children’s Film Festival.

Fest kicks off March 5 at the Director’s Guild of America Theater with the East Coast preem of “Porco Rosso,” helmed by Hayao Miyazaki of the Oscar-winning “Spirited Away.”

Opening night will also feature “Destino,” an animated collaboration between Salvadore Dali and Walt Disney, which has been in the works for more than 50 years.

Other highlights include the U.S. premiere of Germany’s “Mutants” and the world premiere of the English language version of South Korea’s “Hammerboy.”

Slate will also include five new films from Aardman Animations (including four new “Wallace and Gromit” shorts) and the U.S. premiere of a film adaptation of the Newbery Award-winning novel “A Wrinkle in Time.”

Fest runs through March 27 at locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
