Beantown fetes Bening
BOSTON — The 20th edition of the Boston Film Festival will unspool Sept. 10-19 at Loews Boston Copley Place and Boston Common theaters.Annette Bening will be the recipient of the Beantown classic’s Film Excellence Award, to be presented before the screening of her latest film “Being Julia” on Sept. 13. Joining Bening will be director Istvan Szabo. The Boston fest traditionally piggybacks on the Toronto and New York fests, getting directors and stars working the fall circuit. However, fest director Mark Diamond often is able to unearth some gems on his own and to showcase films that have been feted elsewhere. Among the entries on this year’s sked are “Go Further,” to be introduced by star Woody Harrelson; French/Swiss co-production “Les Choristes”; “The Woodsman,” to be introduced by director Nicole Kassell; “King of the Corner,” introduced by director Peter Riegert; and John Sayles’ “Silver City.” Opening-night entries include Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner “Primer,” to be introduced by director Shane Carruth; “Incident at Loch Ness,” introduced by director Zak Penn; and Los Angeles Film Festival winner “Unknown Soldier” introduced by director by Ferenc Toth.
