Balaban to host IFP Gotham Awards

Red-carpet arrivals will be hosted by Hedwig

Bob Balaban has been tapped to host the IFP/New York’s 14th annual Gotham Awards.

The ceremony is slated for Dec. 1 at Manhattan’s Chelsea Piers.

Red-carpet arrivals at the Gothams will be hosted this year by writer-helmer John Cameron Mitchell. The awards are airing live on IFC.

Said Michelle Byrd, IFP/New York exec director: “Bob’s body of work as both an actor and a producer are indicative of his commitment to independent film.”

Balaban produced and starred in Robert Altman’s “Gosford Park” and has credits in films including “Midnight Cowboy,” “Best in Show,” “A Mighty Wind” and the upcoming “Marie and Bruce,” opposite Julianne Moore and Matthew Broderick.

This is the first year the Gothams shifted from a fall slot to recast itself as an end-of-year awards date.
