'Vanity Fair' sneak caps retrospective
The American Museum of Moving Image will unspool a retrospective of Indian-born filmmaker Mira Nair’s features, documentaries and shorts Aug. 21-29.“Vanity Fair,” Nair’s upcoming feature adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel, will have a preview screening Aug. 29, followed by a discussion between Nair and museum director David Schwartz. Other films screening include “Mississippi Masala,” the 1991 Denzel Washington starrer about interracial romance in the Deep South; “Salaam Bombay!,” which garnered Nair a 1988 Camera d’Or for film debut at Cannes; and more recent pics “Hysterical Blindness” and “Monsoon Wedding.”
