Participant Prods. has acquired all U.S. rights to the documentary “Arna’s Children” and partnered with ThinkFilm on the release of the film Friday in New York.
“Arna’s Children” received the documentary prize at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.
Arna Mer Khamis was an activist against the Israeli occupation who founded an alternative education system for Palestinian children. In the Jenin refugee camp, Mer Khamis opened a children’s theater group. Her son, film’s helmer Juliano Mer Khamis, was a director at the theater group and filmed his mother and the children rehearsing and performing over a six-year period. ThinkFilm has in release “The Story of the Weeping Camel,” “Festival Express,” “Bright Young Things” and George Butler’s “Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry.” Recent acquisitions include “The Assassination of Richard Nixon” and Mark Wexler’s “Tell Them Who You Are.”
Participant recently signed a two-picture deal with Warner Bros.
