‘Waiting’ over at Lions Gate

Laffer targeting youth as exec sees shades of 'Pie'

Lions Gate Films Intl. has acquired international sales rights to comedy “Waiting,” the directorial debut of screenwriter Rob McKittrick.

Pic, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Justin Long and Anna Faris, tracks a day in the life of arrested adolescent roommates who make their way through girls, booze and weed while working as waiters at a family-friendly restaurant.

Produced by Adam Rosenfelt, Jeff Balis, Robert Green and Stavros Merjos, pic was exec produced by Sam Nazarian, Hans Zimmer and Media Ventures and Chris Moore.

” ‘Waiting’ is an outrageous comedy with a likable, talented cast in the vein of ‘Van Wilder’ and the ‘American Pie’ series. If these films are any indication, ‘Waiting’ should have wide appeal in the large youth market and beyond,” said Nick Meyer, co-president of Lions Gate Films Intl.
