Videovision nabs ‘9/11,’ other pix for S. Africa

'Heart,' 'Harold,' 'Masai,' 'Phantom' also picked up

JOHANNESBURG — Anant Singh’s Videovision Entertainment, has acquired a slew of titles for distribution in South Africa, including Michael Moore’s documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

Other purchases are “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things,” screening in Directors Fortnight; “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle”; “Masai, the Rain Warriors”; “Racing Stripes,” which was shot in South Africa; “Resident Evil: Apocalypse”; “Sahara”; “Super Size Me”; “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera”; “The Statement”; and Oscar nominee “The Triplets of Belleville.”

“We are thrilled to have made these significant acquisitions for South African distribution,” said Sanjeev Singh, Videovision’s head of acquisitions and distribution.

He said “Fahrenheit 9/11” will be released in September in South Africa, while Asia Argento’s “Heart Is Deceitful” should bow in early 2005.
