Verhoeven booked for WWII thriller pic

$11 mil will be helmer's first Dutch-lingo pic in 20 years

Paul Verhoeven has committed to next direct “Black Book” (Zwartboek) for producer Joni Sighvatsson and San Fu Maltha of Fu Works. Pic is expected to start shooting in October or November in Europe.

Pic, which Verhoeven penned with Gerard Soeteman, is a World War II thriller about Jewish young woman Rachel Steinn who joins the Dutch resistance while collaborating with the Nazis. Project is expected to star Carice van Houten and Halina Reijn.

Katapult Films is in negotiations to handle foreign sales on pic, the new sales shingle headed by Thomas Mai and Sighvatsson. Maltha is also in negotiations to ink a German co-producer on project.

The $11 million pic will be Verhoeven’s first Dutch-lingo pic since he went to the U.S. in 1983. Pic will be filmed in Dutch, German and English.
