PARIS — Unifrance, a nonprofit org that promotes Gallic cinema, voted in 84 current and new members Tuesday to its four commissions in a meeting that precedes the election of the org’s prexy July 9.
Among those chosen were 32 feature producers for the new producers’ commission created in May to give them a stronger voice in Unifrance. The prexy will be elected from among the 32.
Current topper Margaret Menegoz is the only declared candidate for the post, which became free when Daniel Toscan du Plantier died of a heart attack at the Berlin Film Festival last year.
Ex-Canal Plus topper Pierre Lescure and onetime Gallic culture minister Jack Lang had been rumored as possible candidates for one of the highest-profile jobs in French cinema.
