Trying on ‘Talisman’

Zwick in talks to helm D'works horror pic

Ed Zwick is in negotiations to direct horror pic “The Talisman” at DreamWorks. He replaces Vadim Perelman (“The House of Sand and Fog”), who fell off the project last week.

Script, based on a horror novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub, concerns a 12-year-old boy who goes on a supernatural journey in order to find the talisman that can save his dying mother.

Steven Spielberg is exec producing the pic. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Colin Wilson are producing.

Zwick most recently wrote, directed and produced “The Last Samurai” for Warner Bros.

Earlier this year Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz’s Bedford Falls shingle signed a two-year first-look production deal at Warner Bros.

His upcoming projects include directing “Khe Sanh,” a Vietnam pic with Tom Hanks attached to star, at Fox; and an untitled Robert F. Kennedy project, which he will direct and produce, also at Fox.
