Thrive on a feature kick

Pic slate includes Thalberg bio, DJ thriller

Ricardo Vinas’ Thrive Records has launched a feature division.

Heading Thrive Pictures is Bryan Brucks, former head of development at Tom Lassally’s Kustom Entertainment and a production exec at Gary Ross’ Larger Than Life Entertainment.

Among the projects on the Thrive slate is a biopic with Robert Evans about another legendary producer, Irving G. Thalberg. Thrive is currently out to writers, having optioned two Thalberg biographies: Bob Thomas’ “Thalberg, Life & Legend” and Roland Flamini’s “Thalberg, the Last Tycoon and the World of MGM.”

With Peter Speakman and Mike Galvin (“Your World Against Mine”), Thrive is developing a thriller set in the world of turntable-spinning DJs. Benderspink will produce with Thrive.

Thrive also is adapting the St. Martin’s Press novel “Topping From Below,” an S&M thriller by Laura Reese.

Vinas launched Thrive in 1997. Distribbed by Sony Music, the label reps DJ-producer Paul Oakenfold and has produced and released the soundtracks for films such as “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream.”
