Jack Valenti will be honored tonight with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Germany during a special ceremony and black-tie dinner at the Washington residence of the German ambassador to the U.S., Jutta Falke-Ischinger.
Award, the highest decoration presented to a foreign national by the German state, was officially approved by the president of the Federal Republic. It will be bestowed upon the former chairman-CEO of the Motion Picture Assn. for “his achievements in the global film industry as well as his outstanding service to the Federal Republic.”
“I cannot imagine a higher honor than the Merit Order for what I have tried to accomplish on behalf of the world film community, and in particular of the German creative filmmakers,” Valenti said in a statement.
The peripatetic Valenti made his 26th visit to the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.
